Microsoft OneDrive for Android will support Samsung Motion Photos and 8K video playback

Microsoft announced today that it will update the Android version of the OneDrive application. The updated OneDrive App will have a brand-new main interface, and users can see three parts on the new main interface: latest files, offline files and today’s photos.

For users with work or school accounts, the main interface will be changed to view the latest files, shared libraries, and offline files. The new main interface update has been used in the latest version of iOS.

After supporting iPhone Live Photos last month, Microsoft announced that it will support Samsung Motion Photos for OneDrive for Android. It now supports the storage and playback of Samsung Motion Photos but does not support editing. Therefore, if any changes are made to Motion Photos, they will It is saved as a still photo.

The last feature of the update is that users can playback 8K videos in OneDrive. Strangely, Microsoft pointed out that it currently only supports 8K videos shot by the Samsung Galaxy S20 or S21 series, and is not open to all devices.

The new main interface will be used on the Android version of OneDrive 6.21 and higher, and Motion Photos will be supported in version 6.23 and higher. Microsoft has not revealed what version is required for 8K video playback.
