Android 12 provide single-handed mode, multi-task improvements and more

XDA Developer Forum found more details about Android 12 “Snow Cone”, the next major version of Android. The most attractive one should be the “one-handed mode” being developed by Google. It is ready to be added to AOSP (the open-source version of Android).

XDA said it only confirmed that Google is developing this so-called “one-handed mode”, but the specific implementation method is unknown. Most developers think that it is like many mobile phone manufacturers, the entire screen is scaled down to a small square (for example, the Asus ZenFone 7 Pro is shown below).

XDA said that Google plans to scale up to 40% of the screen in Android 12, and Google will provide a way for users to use the traditional three-button mode (menu, the home page, back) and newer gesture navigation modes to trigger (And manipulation) One-handed mode.

Judging from the current situation, Google is going to add a one-handed mode to “Settings”> “System”> “Gestures”> “One-handed”, which requires users to use specific gestures to trigger (such as left/right on the navigation bar slide). Because it is an AOSP code, Google must consider the logic of most manufacturers and third-party apps, which will affect the entire Android ecosystem and is extremely demanding.

In addition, it can be confirmed that Google finally introduced the scrolling screenshot function (long picture) in Android 12. It is gratifying. Google stated in an Ask Me Anything theme on Reddit last year that they did not want to use half-baked logic to implement scrolling screenshots, so they can look forward to Google’s “black technology.”

In other respects, XDA developers found that Google is improving Android’s multitasking features, such as picture-in-picture mode (two-finger zoom, double-click to maximize, PiP hiding, support for moving off-screen, etc.), and the new “Social App” bubble animation (May does not have much to do with domestic users, the video demonstration is as follows), the dual App split-screen function of Surface Duo and Samsung Galaxy Fold series has been introduced.

XDA expects that the first Android 12 Developer Preview will arrive later this month, so we may see more practical applications of the new Android 12 features at that time.
