Google updated its ARCore to improve AR performance for Pixel 4/XL

According to the Android Police reports, Google is about to use the dual cameras of mobile phones to improve AR performance. Google’s ARCore SDK allows mobile phones to use their processors, motion sensors, light sensors, and cameras to place virtual objects in a mixed reality environment.

Mixed reality is a special kind of augmented reality. Its technology and application are between AR and VR. Mixed reality augments the real world through virtual objects. The purpose of virtual objects is to place them in the world according to the objects in the real world. To lock their positions.

However, ARCore can only use one of the cameras even in the flood of rear-mounted 4-camera phones. But soon, ARCore will be able to use two cameras on Pixel 4 and 4 XL.

The Google Play Services for AR application provides an upgrade to ARCore. The new content in this version includes: adding dual-camera stereo depth on supported devices; supporting AR on more devices; providing developers with new performance monitoring and logging tools.

This week Google developers updated the list of devices supported by ARCore. The entry for Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL read: “Dual camera support will be launched in the next few weeks.”

It is not yet certain whether this algorithm is a simple disparity calculation or some additional calculations have been added. In addition, given that both phones use a wide-angle/telephoto combination, it is not yet certain whether the ultra-wide-angle camera also supports AR.
