Microsoft Windows 10 Edge browser classic version officially stops technical support

According to the Microsoft blog, Microsoft officially ended its technical support for the traditional classic Edge Legacy browser on March 9, 2021. It will not receive any new security updates. Microsoft recently announced that the Microsoft Edge Legacy desktop application will be removed with the release of the Windows 10 “Patch Tuesday” update in April. The new Chromium version of the Edge browser will be installed as part of the Windows 10 cumulative monthly security update released on April 13, 2021.

  • Windows 10, version number 1809, all versions (October 2018).
  • Windows 10, version number 1903, all versions (May 2019).

Note: This version no longer supports the desktop.

  • Windows 10, version number 1909, all versions (October 2019).
  • Windows 10, version number 2004, all versions (May 2020).
  • Windows 10, version number 20H2, all versions (October 2020).

Because Windows 10 version 20H2 already uses the new Microsoft Edge as the default browser, it will not be reinstalled, only the Edge Legacy browser will be deleted. Microsoft always provides some guidance for customers who run the kiosk mode on the Edge Legacy browser.
