Facebook begins to allow short video bloggers to use sticker ads to earn revenue

Facebook announced that it will open up new ways for content creators to monetize content on its platform. The main change is for short videos, and content creators will now be able to monetize them and test sticker ads in Stories. After its success last year, it will also increase the number of creators allowed to monetize content.

According to the social media company’s data, from 2019 to 2020, the number of people with a monthly income of $10,000 increased by 88%, and the number of people with a monthly income of $1,000 increased by 94%. As the pandemic hits people’s financial situation and may continue to do so in the next few years, Facebook’s expansion of monetization services will undoubtedly become a lifeline for many people.

Before today’s update, ads were only applicable to videos of three minutes or longer and started playing after 45 seconds. Now, videos as short as 1 minute can play ads midway. Facebook said these ads will “minimize interference.”

Facebook said it will also gather a small group of content creators to test sticker ads in Stories. As stickers, they will sit on the user’s screen without destroying the Story you are watching, and if used well, they should not cause interference. Although the test group will be small in the coming weeks, it hopes to expand to more creators soon. Once Facebook is satisfied with this form of advertising, it plans to bring it to short videos on Facebook.

In addition to the monetization of short videos, Facebook also announced improvements to Stars so that fans can send Stars to content creators. In the past 6 months, 6 billion stars have been sent, which is equivalent to an additional $60 million in revenue for creators.

In order to improve people’s understanding of Stars, Facebook will provide followers with free Stars, they can send Stars to creators; the company will spend 7 million US dollars on this initiative.
