Facebook targets emerging markets to launch Instagram Lite

Facebook’s growth now comes from developing countries, so this social network today has made a key move to better cater to consumers in these countries. After nearly three years of planning, Facebook officially launched Instagram Lite today, which is a popular Android photo and video application with fewer data and storage. It will only take up 2MB of storage space on the phone, and it will be launched today in 170 countries and emerging markets.

The features introduced by Instagram Lite include all the basic functions of editing, sharing and viewing photos and videos, as well as the features of adding stickers, creating and viewing Stories, IGTV and Explore discovery and recommendation algorithms. Considering that it will be launched in 170 countries, it will provide specific language support for use in these markets.

But in order to reduce the experience from the 30MB storage space occupied by full-size Instagram on iOS and Android devices, Instagram Lite also cut some things. In other words, the developer omitted many graphics, did not include advertisements and lacked some key features, such as Douyin video production, dark mode, shopping, and end-to-end encryption. Instagram Lite currently does not have an iOS version.
