Pixel 5 is disappointing in terms of specifications and power, but 2021 may bring Pixel fans a more exciting device than last year’s “flagship”. First, there were rumors last year that Google and Samsung were developing a custom processor that could power Pixel phones and other gadgets. Various reports claim that Google will launch the Pixel 5a version as early as June. The design of this phone was leaked a few weeks ago, indicating that Google may use the current Pixel 4a 5G phone design in the new phone. 9to5Google dug into the Google Camera application of the recently released Pixel phone and found some details about Pixel 5a and Pixel 6.
There is a code in the camera app that explains how the app handles the position of the punch-hole selfie camera. This code shows that the radius of the selfie camera is only 55 pixels, which is smaller than the 65 pixels of the Pixel 4a. More interesting is the details about the Pixel 6 camera, indicating that the selfie camera will support 4K video recording. This will greatly improve the functionality of the current Pixel 5, which currently only supports full HD video recording.
The code also shows that the Pixel 6 camera will be placed at the top center of the screen, instead of placed at the top left like the Pixel 5. This seems to be a small, insignificant detail. It does not matter where the punch-hole selfie camera is placed, because the overall appearance and screen-to-body ratio show the same result. But the change in location will also force Google to make changes to the user interface. The clock and notification indicator will return to the top left of the screen.

More importantly, the location of the selfie is crucial for future foldable Pixel phones. It is unclear what design Google intends to adopt. The foldable Pixel may adopt a clamshell design like the Galaxy Z Flip, or Google may choose the normal smartphone/tablet Galaxy Z Fold 2 solution.
If it is the latter, Google is to make a Pixel Fold type mobile phone, then Google has a variety of options for selfie cameras. If the internal screen should be equipped with a selfie camera, then it cannot be placed in the middle of the foldable screen, because that is the location of the hinge.
This is why the internal selfie camera of the Galaxy Z Fold 2 is off-center. Its center position is on the right half of the foldable display screen. On the other hand, if Google will only place a selfie camera on the external display, then the selfie camera cannot sit in the upper left corner, which is the position of the hinge.
In other words, there is no sign that Google will launch a foldable Pixel this year. But 9to5Google did say that it knows the codenames of two allegedly Pixel 6 devices, including Oriole and Raven. The former may be Pixel 6. It is unclear whether Google will launch the Pixel 6 XL phone this year, or whether Pixel Fold will act as an XL.
