Windows 10 21H1 is the first feature update without the classic version of Edge

The classic version of Edge code-named “Spartan” is about to withdraw from the stage of history. In a recently updated support document, Microsoft stated that the upcoming Windows 10 21H1 feature update in May will completely say goodbye to it. In the Windows 10 20H2 feature update, the new Chromium-based Edge has become the default browser, but the classic version of Edge is still retained in the system.

In other words, there are three official browsers pre-installed in the current Windows 10 system, namely Chromium Edge (default), classic Microsoft Edge (hidden) and Internet Explorer (optional/disabled). The classic version of Edge has ceased support on March 9, and the cumulative update in April 2021 will be removed from the system.

In the support document updated on March 6, Microsoft quietly confirmed that Windows 10 21H1 will be the first feature update without the classic version of Edge, which means that the browser has been completely removed. After the feature update, you will no longer be able to find the browser in the operating system, nor can you run two versions of Microsoft Edge at the same time.

However, the Microsoft Store (UWP) using EdgeHTML is not affected and still supports WebView. In the cumulative update in April, including Version 1809/1903/1909/2004 and 20H2 feature update will remove the classic version of Edge. In the old version of Microsoft Edge, Microsoft has begun to remind users that they should “download the new version of Microsoft Edge today.”
