Samsung mid-range models Galaxy A52, A52 5G and A72 release upgraded screens and cameras

At the second Unpacked event this year, Samsung officially released the next three A-series phones: Galaxy A52, A52 5G and A72. Although the company has not announced pricing or availability in the United States, it has confirmed European pricing: A52 is 349 euros (approximately US$415), A52 5G is 429 euros (approximately US$510), and A72 is 449 euros (534 US dollars).

The main specifications of this series of models include IP67 waterproof and dustproof, a higher refresh rate screen, and a 64-megapixel main camera with optical image stabilization. All three models include a microSD card slot for extended storage and will include a charging head in the box, which is not equipped in the S21 series of flagship devices.

Each of the Galaxy A52, A52 5G and A72 is based on an unspecified eight-core (dual 2.3GHz + six-core 1.8GHz) processor, running Android 11 and Samsung’s One UI 3.0. All models will provide 128GB and 256GB storage versions, and the memory configuration will vary by region. Like all recent Galaxy phones, these devices guarantee security updates for at least four years.

Galaxy A52 and A52 5G both use 6.5-inch Super AM OLED screens. As rumored, the A52’s display will provide a 90Hz refresh rate, while the A52 5G will use a 120Hz screen. Both will use a rear “four-camera” array, but one of these four cameras is a 5 million pixel depth sensor. The main camera is a 64MP f/1.8, and there are also a 12MP f/2.2 ultra-wide-angle 5MP macro and a 32MP f/2.2 selfie camera.

Samsung said that the A52 model uses a brighter screen-compared to last year’s 600 screens, the brightness is up to 800 nits, the battery capacity is 4500mAh, and it can be used for two days on a single charge. The A52 5G naturally also includes 5G connectivity, but Samsung has not yet confirmed which frequencies will be supported in the United States.

Galaxy A72 provides a slightly larger 6.7-inch Super AMOLED screen with a refresh rate of 90Hz. It offers the same basic rear camera array but includes an 8MP f/2.4 3x telephoto camera instead of a depth sensor. The A72 is a model that only supports LTE; a 5G version is likely to appear, but there is no final confirmation.
