Chrome browser adds real-time subtitles feature

The latest version of Google Chrome 89 browser adds very useful feature-real-time subtitles. This feature uses machine learning technology to automatically add subtitles to audio and video, making it easier for people who are deaf or hard of hearing to access the Internet.

After enabling, when users are watching or listening to video or audio content, real-time subtitles will automatically appear in a small movable box at the bottom of the browser. Subtitles will be delayed, and if the person speaking in the video speaks too fast or stutters, there may be some errors in the subtitles.

But in general, this feature is as stunning as it first appeared on Pixel phones in 2019. Subtitles also appear when the audio is muted or the volume is reduced so that you can “read” the video or podcast without disturbing others around you.

We found that Chrome’s real-time subtitles feature can be used on YouTube videos, Twitch streams, podcast players, and even music streaming services like SoundCloud. However, the real-time subtitles in the Chrome browser seem to only work in English.

Users can enable real-time subtitles by going to “Settings” and then “Accessibility” in the “Advanced” section. If you don’t see this feature, try to update manually and restart your browser). When the feature is turned on for the first time, the Chrome browser will quickly download some voice recognition files, and then the next time the browser plays the audio of people talking, subtitles should appear.

Real-time subtitles were first introduced in the Android Q beta, and to this day are still some exclusive features of Pixel and Samsung phones. Now that this feature has appeared on the Chrome browser, more users will be able to experience the convenience brought by the real-time subtitles feature.
