The January update caused activation failures on some Windows 10 devices

Windows 10 cumulative update is constantly creating new problems while fixing various problems. After installing the cumulative update KB4598291 from January of this year, some users encountered the “0xc004c003” activation failure error.

The pop-up reminder is: “Cannot activate Windows on the current device because you do not have a valid digital license or product key. If you think you do have a valid license or key, please select “Troubleshooting” below. Error code 0xc004c003″.

Today Microsoft acknowledged this problem and said: “When you try to activate the operating system with the OEM activation 3.0 (OA3) digital product key (DPK), this problem may occur. When the authorization code component tries to access it without proper access When accessing the registry, error 0xC004C003 will occur. The resulting access denied error will cause the product key to not be extracted correctly.”

The temporary solution announced by Microsoft is not to install the update and uninstall the update if it is already installed. Ironically, the KB4598291 cumulative update is to fix the activation problems encountered by some Windows 10 educational devices after upgrading to Windows 10 Version 2004.
