Verizon is integrating media resources around the new subscription service Yahoo Plus

Verizon Media Group, a media department under Verizon, currently has more than 3 million paid subscribers, and the department mainly provides a combination of Yahoo Fantasy, Yahoo Finance and other content. Joanna Lambert, the consumer director of Verizon Media, said: “Yahoo will become our flagship brand for consumers in the future.”

Verizon Media said it will integrate and reshape its media resources in the future to form a combination of Yahoo brand and will focus on selling these products through a combination subscription called “Yahoo Plus”.

She said: “With the passage of time, we will transfer non-Yahoo brand products and integrate them around Yahoo.” At present, the company has reshaped its media studio “RYOT” into “Yahoo Ryot Lab” and female brand “Makers” into “Makers by Yahoo”.

Other media brands such as TechCrunch, AutoBlog and Engadget have not yet been renamed or reshaped. These brands have been integrated into relevant categories in the entire Yahoo ecosystem. Currently, MAKERS by Yahoo is part of Yahoo Life, Autoblog is part of Yahoo Autos, Engadget and TechCrunch are part of Yahoo News and Yahoo Finance, and the Yahoo Tech category will be launched soon.

As part of Yahoo Plus, Yahoo will provide a variety of subscriptions, some of which are currently in beta:

  • Yahoo Fantasy Plus: Fantasy game research tools and trading insights.
  • Yahoo Finance Plus: Previously called Finance Premium, it will provide different levels of services for retail investors (Plus Lite) and experienced traders (Plus Essentials).
  • Yahoo Mail Plus: e-mail without ads, as well as custom features, such as one-time address or domain name blocking.
  • Yahoo Plus Protect: Cooperate with equipment insurance company Asurion to provide equipment protection and technical support plans.
  • TechCrunch: ExtraCrunch is a member-exclusive community of TechCrunch, charging users to obtain investor surveys, market analysis, expert interviews, etc.

The company is also experimenting with “Tastemakers”, which allows users to use Yahoo’s premium subscription brands for free, such as investor reports:

  • The idea behind the Tastemakers project is to help attract more people to subscribe to Yahoo products.
  • At present, all Yahoo-branded products are provided by way of individual subscriptions. In the future, the company may consider merging them.
  • For every additional subscription purchased in Yahoo Plus, users can get deeper discounts on other subscriptions, allowing consumers to mix and match subscriptions. The idea is to create a highly personalized subscription experience.
