The new fade sleep tab switch option comes to Microsoft Edge Canary

Last year, Microsoft introduced a new feature called “Sleep Tag” for Edge. This feature puts inactive tabs into a sleep state (that is, stops updating in the background), which greatly saves battery and memory usage. However, this feature may cause problems with some website pages that require continuous work.

This is why Microsoft provides users with a lot of control sleep tags, such as setting the inactive time before sleep starts and setting a list of websites that are excluded from sleep.

Microsoft has also added another useful feature. When the website exhibits strange behavior due to the sleep tab, it can help users debug by diluting the icon. However, some users do not like the interface changes brought about by the faded icon.

In the latest development version, Microsoft has added a new fade sleep label switching function (the default setting is on in the settings), which now allows users to choose whether to fade the label text and icons when the website goes to sleep.

This feature currently exists in Edge Canary and should enter the development version in a few weeks and the mainstream version in a few months. Currently, its settings menu is located in the Save resources section of edge://settings/system, as shown in the figure:
