Windows 10 21H2 Sun Valley update will remove Edit with Paint 3D from the context menu

According to the Windows Latest report, Microsoft has confirmed that it will delete “Edit with Paint 3D” in the Windows 10 context menu in the next feature update. If you don’t know what Paint 3D is, then you may be one of the many people who ignore the Windows 10 creators to update and add new applications.

Paint 3D was first introduced in the Windows 10 Creators Update. It is used to create three-dimensional images instead of 2D art created with the classic Paint application. Unlike Paint, it is a more powerful tool, and you can even use it to delete objects in an image.

However, Microsoft’s love for 3D applications, folders and options has not received a response from most Windows users, and the next update will make these features completely optional.

You may have noticed that the “Edit” option in the context menu can start MS Paint drawing, and “Edit with Paint 3D” can start Paint 3D. Currently, even if you manually uninstall the app, you cannot remove the “Edit with Paint 3D” option.

If you click this option when Paint 3D is uninstalled, Windows will ask you to download the app again from the Microsoft Store. This option is not only useless when the application is uninstalled, but also difficult to ignore. As long as you right-click the image, it will appear.

Fortunately, with the update of Windows 10 version 21H2 (Sun Valley), this option will no longer appear when the application is successfully uninstalled.

Uninstalling the Paint 3D application will automatically remove the “Edit with Paint 3D” option from the context menu, and you don’t need to edit the registry anymore. According to Microsoft, this change started to appear in Build 21332.

“This [Cannot remove Paint 3D from the context menu] issue should be resolved after upgrading to Build 21332.”

Microsoft also confirmed that 3D Viewer and Paint 3D will no longer be pre-installed in the clean installation of Windows 10. The 3D object folder in File Explorer will also disappear in the next feature update, which is scheduled for October-November.
