After Cyberpunk 2077 dropped, CDPR is changing its game production method

On Tuesday, Polish game developer CDPR announced a comprehensive restructuring plan. At this time, it has been several months since “Cyberpunk 2077” went on the market under scolding. The official press release stated that one of its main goals was to change the studio’s video game development methods. By 2022, CDPR will begin to implement a new development model on a variety of 3A masterpieces.

As early as January 2013, CDPR released the first trailer for Cyberpunk 2077 after the success of “The Witcher 3”. But it wasn’t until December 2020 that we saw the belated work. The embarrassing thing is that even after many ticket bounces, “Cyberpunk 2077” encountered a series of performance problems and large and small bugs when it was first released, and even forced Sony to remove it from the PlayStation Store and refund the players.

After more than 100 days, the game has not returned to the PlayStation Store. Even in the past few months, CDPR has released many fixes and updates for the PC platform. Closer to home, a major change in CDPR game development has focused on the performance improvement of the company’s proprietary REDengine game engine. CDPR said that on the basis of focusing on improving REDengine, the studio will also reorganize a more proactive interdisciplinary agile team.

In theory, this can prevent future game development from repeating the mistakes of “Cyberpunk 2077”, especially if it cannot run well on the old generation of console platforms. CDPR senior vice president of business development, Michał Nowakowski, said in a statement that the company will still focus on the single-player role-playing game genre, and it is expected that more content such as “Cyberpunk” and “Witcher” will be seen in the future.

Even so, CDPR still plans to gradually expand the online features of its own games, but the company has not disclosed more details. In terms of marketing strategy, CDPR should no longer start publicity years in advance like “Cyberpunk 2077”. In other words, the studio will shout loudly when the game is about to be released, show it on all supported hardware platforms, and promise to release a new roadmap every year.

Finally, CDPR stated that it will be committed to improving the working conditions of its employees and continue to promote inclusiveness and diversity in the workplace. At the same time, it emphasizes the personal well-being of employees and provides them with professional and personalized development opportunities.
