Chrome optimizes the use of Emoji panel and virtual input method

With the joint efforts of Microsoft and Google, you will soon be able to optimize the use of the Emoji panel in the Chrome browser. There are currently two ways to insert emojis in the Chrome browser. One is to use the Win key plus a period shortcut to call out the built-in Emoji panel of the Windows 10 system, and the other is to open it by right-clicking in the text box.

However, there is a rare BUG, that is, the Emoji panel or virtual keyboard may be placed in the wrong position. According to Microsoft, when switching from CSS pixels to the viewport, the “browser zoom factor” is currently not applied to the control boundary.

Therefore, on some websites and services, the Emoji panel is placed in the wrong position. This error will also affect other text input services, including the virtual keyboard on some touch devices.

In the latest Chromium code proposal, Microsoft confirmed that it hopes to make the picker or virtual keyboard easier to reach by enabling support for a new API. This new API is able to obtain the control boundary of the element, which should improve the behavior of the emoji panel in the Chrome browser.

Microsoft explained: “The API can get the bounding box of the element to which the browser zoom factor is applied, and it can also convert the coordinates from the root frame to the visual viewport.” After applying this change, you will notice that the Google Chrome browser will open the native emoji selector near the caret (text box, content editable element). The code submission description pointed out that this feature is applicable to Windows and will not be applied to Mac, Linux or Chrome OS.
