April 2021 mobile phone retention rate rankings

According to SellCell’s latest ranking of mobile phone retention rates in April 2021, the Apple iPhone 12 series released last fall performed stronger than the Samsung Galaxy S21 series released earlier this year. In other words, if you want to trade-in for a new one after about 12 months of use, the iPhone 12 series is still the most valuable option. Since its launch in 2020, the iPhone 12 series has only lost 18.1% ~ 33.7% of its initial value.

At the same time, the devaluation of the Samsung Galaxy S21 series was faster than we expected. Since its release in early 2021, it has lost 44.8% ~ 57.1% of its value, and the 256GB version of the Galaxy S21 model priced at $799 is the first to bear the brunt.

On Apple’s side, the 6.1-inch 64GB iPhone 12 model has depreciated by 33.7%, which is equivalent to the 512GB iPhone 12 Pro model. Strangely, the iPhone 12 mini is clearly regarded as the iPhone 12 series with the best sales performance so far, but its monthly depreciation rate is relatively small.

But the most valuable thing is the 128GB version of the iPhone 12 Pro Max, which has so far only lost 18.1% of its total value. Samsung’s Zun Zun model is the 128GB version of the Galaxy S21 Plus, even though its depreciation rate has reached 44.8%.
