Q1 2021 mobile app user spending reached US$32 billion

App Annie’s latest data shows that in the first quarter of 2021, global user spending on in-app purchases in iOS and Google Play reached 32 billion U.S. dollars. This is the highest record ever, an increase of 40% compared to the same period in 2020.

The report points out that the growth in the first quarter of 2021 is evenly split between the two platforms. User expenditures on the iOS platform increased by 40% year-on-year to US$21 billion, and user expenditures on the Google Play platform increased by 40% year-on-year to approximately US$11 billion.

App Annie said that total downloads have also achieved significant growth. The combined downloads of the iOS and Google Play platforms increased by 10% this quarter to 31 billion times.
