Microsoft Blog recently announced the expansion of the entire Microsoft Word application to provide a new modern comment experience. Until now, the modern comment experience is only available on the mobile and web versions of Word. Microsoft is now extending this feature to the Production of Word for Windows and the Current Channel (Preview) of Word for Mac.

Here’s how the modern commenting experience in Word works:
- With modern comments, you no longer have to worry about your comments being seen by others before you finish editing. After you draft a new comment or reply, click the “Post” button or use the keyboard shortcut Ctrl+Enter (Windows) or Cmd + Enter (macOS) to share your thoughts with others. Now, a comment or reply can only be edited by the person who created it.
- By default, in Word, you will find comments on the right side of your page.
- In the “Comments” pane, you can see a single list of all comments in the document, including those that have been resolved. To switch between the context view and the “Comments” pane, just click the “Comments” button in the upper right corner of the Word window.
- Now, if you are a business user and work on cloud files, you can more easily use @mention to call one or more colleagues in your organization or school. Just highlight some text, click the “comment” button, type your comment, and @mention anyone you wish to see. When you post a comment, anyone who has been @via you will receive an email notification.
