Gigaset Android update server was hacked and malware was installed on user’s device

Gigaset revealed that the malware infections found on its Android devices were caused by hacker attacks on the servers of external update service providers. The German telecommunications equipment manufacturer said that the incident seems to date back to March 27. The affected smartphone models include GS100, GS160, GS170, GS180, GS270 (plus), and GS370 (plus) series.

By downloading and installing the installed system update App, this batch of malware takes various forms. Gigaset stated that it had issued a warning to the update service provider in a timely manner and blocked further infections on April 7.

At present, Gigaset has deployed measures to automatically remove malware for the affected devices and recommends that users connect the device to the Internet (turn on WLAN or turn on mobile data) and connect to a charger.
