Apple announces app tracking transparency will take effect on April 26

Starting from April 26, all applications submitted to the App Store must enable App Tracking Transparency. Application tracking transparency is a more controversial feature that automatically frees Apple device users from ad tracking. The company will no longer be able to use the advertiser’s ID (IDFA) unless it is notified through a pop-up or obtained specific permission in the settings.

In the Spring Loaded event early this morning, Apple announced to developers that the application tracking transparency policy will come into effect on April 26. Any application update and new application from the developer must submit an application privacy label, indicating the tracking performed by the application.

Apple announced that any applications that attempt to circumvent “application tracking transparency” will be rejected by the App Store. Apple encourages developers to explain to users why they should be allowed to track when a dialog box appears.

Companies such as Facebook protested this new feature, claiming that it may affect the advertising of small businesses and affect revenue. Facebook feels very strongly about this feature. It published full-page ads in newspapers and started public media campaigns against Apple’s decision.
