Google Workspace will close the classic version site on January 1, 2022

As early as the second half of 2016, Google launched a redesigned Web site for G Suite (now known as Google Workspace). But in order for customers to be able to make a smooth transition, the company has been maintaining the existence of both the new and the old versions. But today, Google finally announced an important decision-from January 1, 2022, Google Workspace will no longer display any content published on the classic version of the site.

This means that all Google Workspace customers need to complete the data migration before the end of 2021. At that time, Google will dump the remaining documents on the old site to the customer’s Google Drive account, and replace it with a draft in the new site (you can choose to publish later).

In addition, from May 15, 2021, Google will remove the ability to create new sites in the classic version. The search giant strongly advises customers not to do so before this deadline. As for the timing of this transition, there is no uniform timetable for the time being (it is estimated that it will vary from person to person).

However, starting from December 1, 2021, users will not be able to edit any remaining classic sites. For administrators, you can choose to export the classic site to a new version, delete and restore in batches, change the ownership of multiple sites at once, and convert or archive sites. Finally, the above changes will be effective for all Google Workspace customers, including G Suite Basic Starter Edition, Business Edition, and Google personal account users.
