During today’s Spring Loaded conference, Apple announced a major update to the iPad Pro product line. Based on the continuation of the 11/12.9-inch two lines and the previous-generation design, it also introduced the same M1 chip on the 2020 Apple Silicon Mac for its own tablet. However, in terms of screen specifications, the 12.9-inch M1 iPad Pro also has the unique blessing of Liquid Retina Display.
Stephen Hackett said on Twitter that the 12.9-inch M1 iPad Pro supports four times the full-area dimming (2500 vs 576) of Pro Display XDR, but the price is only one-fifth of this high-end display ($1099 vs $5000). WCCFTech added that thanks to the adoption of mini-LED technology, the 12.9-inch M1 iPad Pro can pack more than 10,000 backlight LEDs, while the LCD-based Pro Display XDR is difficult to add more area dimming.
The $5,000 Pro Display XDR has 576 full array local dimming zones.
The new 12.9 inch iPad Pro has 2,500… for $1,099.

In addition, Apple claims that the M1 iPad Pro also has a full-screen brightness of 1000 nits (peak up to 1600 nits). More importantly, the mini-LED screen will not be troubled by the OLED burn-in problem. In addition to the smaller screen size than Pro Display XDR, professional creators who have higher requirements for color accuracy can still use the M1 iPad Pro to easily complete related tasks.
As for when the Pro Display XDR display will be upgraded to mini-LED, it seems that there is still a long time to wait. Recently, it has been reported that Apple suppliers are facing a dilemma in mini-LED production, which means that the 12.9-inch M1 iPad Pro may not be able to meet higher market demand in the early stages of launch.
