Windows 10

Windows 10

Microsoft recently released the preview version of Windows 10 Build 21364. This version of the system brings a newly designed task manager, the process display is more detailed, you can clearly see the main process of the Edge browser, the process of extended components, etc. so that users can see the resource usage of different components. However, Microsoft said that this feature will only be rolled out to some users of the Edge Canary preview version, and will gradually be rolled out to all users afterward.

In addition, the task manager of the new version of Windows 10 also provides an experimental feature called “Eco mode”. This function can manually set the energy-saving mode for a single process of the browser to limit resource usage. This feature is not only applicable to child processes but also applicable to part of the parent process of the browser. This feature is also pushed for some users, and the feature will gradually be opened to everyone.

Here is how to enable Eco mode for any process:

  1. Open Task Manager.
  2. Click on the Processes tab.
  3. Right-click on a child process or an individual process.
  4. Click on “Eco mode” in the context menu to apply to throttle.
  5. The status column in the Processes tab should show Eco mode for the process.
