Apple AirTag’s precise search feature is not available in every country

Are you planning to buy Apple AirTag because you are attracted by the precise search feature? Don’t be so fast, because this feature is not available in every country. Apple only showed one feature on AirTag, and the precise search is an eye-opener for us. Utilizing the power of the U1 (Ultra Wideband) chip in iPhone and AirTag, users can get the precise location of lost items. The iPhone in your hand will really point out the direction of the AirTag for you, accurate to the last foot.

Although this feature is cool, it also has a huge disadvantage: due to international regulatory requirements, this feature is not available in every country. In short, according to Apple, if you live in one of the countries listed below, you will not be able to use precise search.

The ultra-wideband feature is not available in these countries or regions:

  • Argentina
  • Armenia
  • Azerbaijan
  • Belarus
  • Indonesia
  • Kazakhstan
  • Kyrgyzstan
  • Nepal
  • Pakistan
  • Paraguay
  • Russia
  • Solomon Islands
  • Tajikistan
  • Turkmenistan
  • Ukraine
  • Uzbekistan

It should be noted that if your country is on this list, the U1 chip in your HomePod mini will not work, as will the chip in the iPhone. Basically, any Apple products with UWB chips cannot be used in the above-mentioned countries, and that’s how it is.

Apple also said:

Ultra-Wideband can be used for iPhone 11 models and iPhone 12 models. Ultra-Wideband is not available in all countries or regions, and to comply with international regulatory requirements, it needs to be closed in some places.

This is not all bad news, because you can still see the approximate location of AirTag in the Find My app via Bluetooth. The tracker can still use nearby iPhones and iPads or Mac to track its location, but it will not be able to obtain the precise location reported by the UWB device.

If you plan to buy Apple’s brand new tracker and live in one of the countries mentioned above, it may be a good idea to reconsider your options. It is also uncertain whether there will be a way to bypass this restriction using some software hacking technique.
