Apple is likely to surpass HP to become the number one supplier of all-in-one computers

According to DigiTimes, citing industry insiders, Apple’s new 24-inch iMac series may help it surpass HP and become the leading supplier of all-in-one (AIO) computer brands. This prediction is based on evidence that, as suppliers prioritize shipments to support more high-end products in the AIO market, more affordable all-in-one brands are severely affected by global chip shortages.

Sources pointed out that high-end AIO computers such as iMac have only seen a limited impact from component shortages, but entry-level to mid-range products with prices between 15,000 Taiwan dollars (536.51 US dollars) and 30,000 Taiwan dollars will be more affected. The source said that due to the shortage of parts, several ODM companies have stopped the production of many AIO computers, but the production of iMac has not been affected.

Apple is selling three new build-to-order iMacs, priced at 1,299 U.S. dollars, 1,499 U.S. dollars, and 1,699 U.S. dollars. All levels have seven color options, including an Apple M1 processor, solid-state storage, 8GB memory and two Thunderbolt/USB 4 ports. The pre-ordered iMac will be shipped from May 21st.

According to Digitimes Research, HP is the largest AIO PC brand in the fourth quarter of 2020 with a shipment of 925,000 units, followed by Apple’s 860,000 units and Lenovo’s 731,000 units. However, Apple’s shipments are estimated to have surpassed HP in the first quarter of 2021.

In general, Apple is expected to be affected by the shortage of chips. The previous forecast believed that due to the tight supply of iPad and Mac, revenue in the third quarter of 2021 would drop by approximately US$3 billion to US$4 billion. Apple itself also stated that the combination of the shortage of iPad and Mac and the very high level of demand is expected to affect its revenue in the second half of 2021.
