Google now invites more users to test the Chat feature in Gmail

After introducing the feature of directly accessing Chat information in the Gmail application for Google Workspace users in July last year, Google now invites more iOS and Android users to test this feature. Since this feature is still in a test state, it requires a certain amount of preparation to use it, and some user account settings may not be available. The Verge can be enabled on a personal account, but cannot be used on a work account.

To enable this feature on iOS or Android, open the side menu and scroll down to settings. If you have multiple accounts, select the account you want and look for “Chat (early access)” under “General”. Turning on the toggle key will open it (after you restart the application).

If you don’t see the Chat option, you may need to enable it in the desktop version of Gmail first by going to https://mail.google.com/mail/u/0/#settings/chat, and then selecting from the Chat menu Google Chat. After restarting the Gmail application on the phone, the switch function should appear.

Chat is an alternative to Hangouts, and users are gradually migrating to the application.
