Privacy Tracking Survey: Gmail is most keen on collecting iOS user data

After Apple announced that it would introduce the App Tracking Transparency (ATT) feature for iOS 14.5, app developers represented by Google and Facebook have been expressing strong opposition. However, under the strong promotion of Apple, this new policy was launched in December last year, and it was officially deployed on April 26 this year. So in the App Store’s hot list, which apps want to get the most iOS user data?

As previously reported, as of May 8, iOS 14 has rejected 96% of applications for data tracking. Considering that users have never experienced more control over personal information on any other platform, we are not surprised by this result. Through specific query APIs and other functions, 42matters, an application intelligence company, shared statistics on App Store application tracking transparency this Thursday.

It is reported that Apple divides application privacy labels into four categories, namely tracking user data, data linked to users, data not linked to users, and uncollected user data. Many apps and third parties will use cross-app privacy data, such as the user’s browsing history, and use it for targeted advertising.

Among the 1.816392 iOS apps available on the App Store, 99,282 currently have relevant tags, and Twitter in the hotlist has more than 8.8 million downloads. The so-called “data linked to users” can use any personally identifiable information (PII) for advertising and other purposes. For example, account setting data entered into the App falls into this category (the number of related apps is 191,471).

However, the most immediate application for user personal data collection is Gmail owned by Google, and the third place is the application of the social giant Facebook. The so-called “data not linked to the user” specifically means that the App may collect other non-personally identifiable information, such as geographic location data or browsing history. The number of apps with this label is 218,294, and the most popular is a game called Subway Surfers.

Finally, the so-called “uncollected data” label applies to any app that does not collect at least a single type of data (such as email addresses). There are 215,662 apps with changed labels, and the most popular one is a rhythm game called FNF Ultimate MOD Game (3.7 million downloads).
