Microsoft released Windows 10 V21382

For members of the Windows Insider project of the Dev channel, today Microsoft released the preview update for Windows 10 Build 21382. As before, this version belongs to the co_release branch, not the rs_prerelease branch. In other words, this version is part of future Windows updates, not the upcoming 21H1 feature update.

Like other versions recently released, Windows 10 Build 21382 does not introduce too many new things. But one of the improvements may be welcomed by creative professionals: applications that use the ICC screen color profile can use the full-color gamut of the HDR display and maintain color accuracy.

Brings HDR support to color management applications:

HDR mode provides some changes to some creative and artistic applications that use the International Color Consortium (ICC) to display color profiles, including Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Lightroom Classic, and CorelDraw (among others). In the past, these applications were limited to targeting the sRGB color gamut.

Microsoft has added a new feature that allows these applications to get accurate colors and access the full-color gamut of your HDR display. To turn on this feature, please close your application, right-click the application icon, and click the “Properties”> “Compatibility” tab, and then select “Use traditional monitor ICC color management” under Settings. This logo only has an effect in HDR mode.

In addition to the above new features, this version update also brings some fixes and improvements. For example, the new Segoe UI Variable font has been used on the touch keyboard. The improvements are as follows:

  • As some Insider users have noticed, the device manager can first view the driver next to the device. The new drivers focus on “devices by driver”, “drivers by type” and “drivers by device” views so that users can view, install and delete drivers, while the new “add driver” operation allows users to Add and install new drivers on all applicable devices.

In many cases, it is more intuitive to manage drivers directly than to handle them through the device they are installed on, so we hope that developers and advanced users can enjoy the increased flexibility. This change was added in Build 21343.

  • After the clean installation or upgrade is completed, the start menu can help users find the applications they want more quickly
  • Updated the new universal folder icon in File Explorer, so now when the folder has content, it will show an indication.
  • The touch keyboard has been updated to use the Segoe UI Variable font, and some minor adjustments have been made to the icon.
