Twitter

According to the MacRumors report, with the update of the application, Twitter today began to require users to enable ad tracking in accordance with Apple’s application tracking transparency rules. After updating to version 8.65 and adding Spaces support, Twitter users will begin to see a pop-up window asking them to “keep ad relevance” by allowing Twitter to track data from other companies (such as apps used and websites visited).

By clicking Continue in the pop-up window, users will enter the real App Tracking Transparency setting. In this setting, users can require apps not to track or allow tracking. Since Apple released iOS 14.5 in late April, apps need to ask for user permission to be able to track, but Twitter did not support this feature until today.

It is worth mentioning that Twitter CFO Ned Segal (Ned Segal) said in the earnings call at the end of April that they believe that Apple’s App Tracking Transparency (ATT) privacy acquisition permission new policy has little impact on it, and It has been reflected in their outlook for the second quarter.

Compared with some other apps, Twitter’s news about the relevance of ads is rather moderate. Previously, Facebook and Instagram adopted a strategy of spreading fear, implying that advertising kept these two social networks free.

In the list of reasons why people should enable app tracking transparency, Facebook listed personalized advertising and support for small businesses, as well as help, keep Facebook free. An analysis shows that 96% of users have disabled app tracking, and only 4% of US iPhone users actively choose to use the tracking function after upgrading to iOS 14.5.
