Apple will use ALAC (Apple Lossless Audio Codec) to preserve every bit of the original audio file. This means that Apple Music users will be able to enjoy the best audio experience. Users can use the latest version of Apple Music to turn on this feature in Settings> Music> Audio Quality. You need to choose different bitrates (including downloads) for cellular networks and Wi-Fi.

The lossless format of Apple Music is based on CD quality. The CD quality is 44.1 kHz (16bit), up to 48 kHz (24bit), and supports local playback on Apple devices. For true enthusiasts, Apple Music also provides up to 192 kHz up to 24bit lossless high bit rate format.
