Google announced at today’s online I/O 2021 developer conference that Google’s Android operating system is now running on 3 billion active devices. In a briefing before today’s event, the company also pointed out that there were 250 million active tablets running Android last year. This number may be larger than some people expected, but it also explains Google’s I/O performance this year. At the conference, attention to these large-screen devices increased.

Traditionally, Google shared new device statistics at I/O conferences, but since it cancelled the event last year, we did not get the 2020 update.
