TikTok launched a new voice for the text-to-speech feature

TikTok’s text-to-speech feature allows video creators to convert text on a video to voice playback, which is very popular among users. A few weeks ago, a voice actor sued TikTok, saying that he never agreed to use his voice in TikTok’s text-to-speech feature. After that, TikTok made adjustments to the dubbing in the text-to-speech feature.

Since yesterday, TikTok has launched new voices in the text-to-speech feature. Compared with the previous voice, the new reading voice sounds more energetic and passionate, and the atmosphere it creates is much different than before. The new voice on TikTok appears to be a response to a lawsuit filed against voice actors earlier this month.

At that time, the voice actor Bev Standing claimed in the lawsuit that she was the owner of the voice behind TikTok’s text-to-speech feature, but she never agreed to cooperate with the company. Statin said that he had participated in the voice recording of an acoustic research institute and used it to help text translation, but he did not authorize the acoustic research institute to use his voice for other purposes. But the text-to-speech feature on TikTok uses her voice.

The lawsuit concerns the English voice used by TikTok in North America. TikTok has not yet commented on Statin’s lawsuit or new voices. But this week’s adjustment shows that the company is taking this lawsuit seriously.
