Due to increasing demand and prices, Samsung decided to continue producing LCD panels

Earlier, it was reported that due to declining demand for LCD panels and increased competition from Chinese display manufacturers, Samsung Display is considering exiting the LCD business completely.

Earlier news indicated that Samsung Display hopes to stop all LCD production by the end of 2020. However, at the request of Samsung Electronics, its plan was postponed for a period of time. It now appears that the company will continue to produce LCD panels for the foreseeable future.

Samsung made this request because of the increasing demand for monitors and TVs. This demand is mainly driven by people having to spend more time indoors due to the corona epidemic. If Samsung Display stops producing LCD panels, Samsung will have to purchase from LG.

Therefore, Samsung Display will now continue to supply LCD panels. The company’s CEO Joo-sun Choi has sent an email to executives confirming that Samsung Display is considering extending the production of large LCD panels by the end of next year.

The increase in demand last year also caused the price of LCD panels to rise. If it has to purchase from outside the corporate group, Samsung Electronics may spend more. By retaining its integrated supply chain, this demand can be met more effectively. “We are considering plans to continue to produce LCD displays until next year. First, consider the company’s profit and reflect the market situation.” An official of Samsung Display said.
