Samsung’s Round Diamond Pixel trademark revealed

LetsGoDigital has just found that Samsung’s trademark registration application for Round Diamond Pixel submitted to the European Union, the United Kingdom and the Korean Intellectual Property Office suggests that the use of Diamond Array flexible screens may be used The upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 3/Galaxy Z Flip 3 folding screen smartphone.

Friends who are familiar with the development of mobile device screen technology will certainly not be unfamiliar with the “diamond array” pixels in the Galaxy S4 era. On June 1, 2021, Samsung Display submitted another trademark registration application for Round Diamond Pixel to at least three regional intellectual property registration agencies.

The registration categories cover OLED display panels, smartphones/tablets/notebook screens, And communication equipment display. However, judging from the slightly broader registration categories, we still cannot be 100% sure which Samsung products will be equipped with Round Diamond Pixel screens. The QD-OLED TVs that have been discussed for a long time may also be among them.

However, LetsGoDigital believes that the Round Diamond Pixel OLED screen is more likely to be used in future Samsung folding screen devices. After all, the current drill screen is only used on smartphones (not including the TV product line). Interestingly, as early as October last year, Samsung Display had put a video on YouTube, the content was mainly related to “Diamond Pixel OLED screen for folding devices.”

The current diamond arrangement pixel structure has planned different sizes and shapes for the R/G/B three sub-pixels to bring better color intensity and image clarity-such as the blue sub-pixel with the lowest phase rate. The red sub-pixels with the largest area and the highest efficiency are arranged to be the smallest. Now, Samsung Display seems to have further developed this technology in order to utilize the Round Diamond Pixel structure in the near future.

If everything goes well, we are expected to see the Round Diamond Pixel OLED screen on the new Galaxy Z Fold 3/Galaxy Z Flip 3 folding screens released in August 2021. In addition, the two new opportunities are expected to be equipped with more durable second-generation UTG ultra-thin glass, a stronger Armor Frame body frame, and an IP xx protection level.
