New comment area on YouTube app that enhances the fullscreen experience

YouTube has been trying for years to make the comment space on the web and mobile apps easier to use. We recently saw the transfer of comments just below the video – in the app – while before it was below the suggested videos.

Google is now testing a new comment box for fullscreen video watching on YouTube. Today you can watch videos and read or write comments, as long as you are in portrait mode. So the company wants to do something about landscape mode.

Decided to put the comments on the right of the screen, in a separate box. When the comments section is open the video shrinks and allows you to read comments. Once you close it – swipe down – the video takes up the entire screen again. The feature is in the limited testing phase. It remains unknown when it will be available to all users.
