GitHub launches a new policy that allows hosting of malware for security research purposes

GitHub recently updated its community guidelines to allow the hosting of vulnerabilities and malware for security research purposes. In March this year, security researcher Nguyen Jang uploaded a proof-of-concept vulnerability (POC) about Microsoft Exchange ProxyLogon on GitHub, and GitHub officials sent him an email shortly afterward. The email was called “Protecting Microsoft Exchange”. The server has deleted the uploaded vulnerability.

However, GitHub’s official approach has attracted doubts. Security personnel said: If it is just because Microsoft’s software has vulnerabilities, GitHub does not allow the hosting of vulnerabilities and malicious software and conducts supervision, then this approach is wrong.

GitHub stated that they will continue to support community feedback on their policies to continue to improve their policies.
