On the first day of WWDC 2021, Apple introduced many experience improvements for users of iPhone and iPad mobile devices. For example, a richer home screen widget has been introduced, and relevant summary messages can be seen in the same-day section of the notification center. The following are other widget updates introduced in iOS 15/iPad OS 15:
- In the Contacts widget, you can choose to get calls, messages, FaceTime, location, mail contact and other information and support through the family sharing (Family Sharing) feature, the purchase of others, or children’s screen use time and other requests to be approved.
- In the Game Center (Game Center), the Continue Playing widget can display which games have been played recently, and Friends Are Playing can display the games that friends are playing.
- In the App Store widget, you can see events such as stories, favorites, and new in-app purchases on the home screen.
- In the Sleep widget, users can know their own sleep status data and further check the sleep schedule.
- In the Mail widget, you can know at a glance which of the latest mails are available, and provide access to one of the user’s mailboxes.
It is worth mentioning that in iPadOS 15, the system can also mirror the content of widgets on the user’s iPhone, and for the first time allows users to freely drag and rearrange related widgets on the home screen (not limited to specific widget application areas).
In addition, Apple has introduced a new default widget feature that can display the default layout of the widgets in the App most frequently used by users (there are also new smart widget options). With an in-depth understanding of the user’s usage habits, the widgets suggested by the relevant App can also appear in the user’s Smart Stacks at an appropriate time (rearrangement is supported).
