Microsoft Outlook for iOS can now use voice to compose emails and schedule meetings

Microsoft is adding voice capabilities to its Outlook mobile application, allowing people to use voice to write emails, schedule meetings and search. The voice function driven by Cortana technology will first be provided in the iOS version of Outlook, and Android system support is coming soon.

A new plus icon will soon appear in the mobile version of Outlook, where you can activate the voice mode. Users will be able to ask questions such as “When is my next Team’s meeting?” or search for colleagues, files, and calendar entries. You can even attach files quickly with the voice because Outlook is using Microsoft Graph to surface related files.

For many years, dictation has been an important part of Word and Outlook on the desktop, and now it also appears in the mobile version of Outlook. Users can use voice to reply to messages on iOS or use the voice-to-text feature to write new emails.

This is not the first time that the Cortana voice feature has appeared in Outlook. Microsoft has been gradually building this system, and Outlook had a voice-playing mail feature before. However, this new update brings the voice feature to almost every part of the Outlook phone.

While increasing the voice function, Microsoft today also launched a separate Scheduler Microsoft 365 service. It is designed for Microsoft 365 administrators as a back-end service to help schedule meetings. The incorporation of Cortana technology allows users to schedule meetings just by replying to emails. You can also voice reply to colleagues to confirm the meeting, just write Cortana, please find a time to meet next week, the assistant Scheduler will find the most suitable time and arrange the meeting.

The Scheduler is part of Microsoft’s larger effort to reposition Cortana as a productivity assistant. Microsoft first launched Cortana for iOS and Android in December 2015, but the company closed the app earlier this year and chose to reduce its technology to zero. Prior to the shutdown, Microsoft CEO Satya Na DELL admitted that the company has difficulty competing with other digital assistants. He revealed in 2019 that Microsoft no longer regards Cortana as the difference between Alexa and Google Assistant. Competitors.
