South Korea ranks first in the world with 5384 patent applications for OLED panels

KIPO investigated the data of South Korea, the United States, China, the European Union and Japan from 2011 to 2020. Specifically, South Korea’s OLED patent applications amounted to 5,384, accounting for 43% and ranking first in the world.

China has 3273 patents, accounting for 26%, ranking second; Japan has 2,433 patents, accounting for 20%; and the United States has 567 patents, accounting for 5%. Among Korean companies, Samsung Electronics has filed 2,786 patents, and LG Electronics owns 2,412.

In terms of Chinese companies, BOE submitted 1,676 OLED screen patents, ranking third in the world; Japanese company SEL patents 907, ranking fourth. If you look at the number of successful patent registrations, there are 4,044 patents in Korea, 3,533 in Japan, 2061 in China, and 628 in the United States.
