Soon you will be able to remove mentions from tweets from others

Have you been mentioned in a conversation on Twitter that you’d rather not be a part of? Twitter will soon offer you an escape route by removing the listing from your account. In addition, you can also refuse all entries for a period.

Twitter Mentions

Mentions in tweets are a great way to get the right people involved in a conversation. Just an ‘@’ sign and anyone can follow new posts in the comments. Although you can of course also be mentioned in a tweet if you don’t want that at all, and that’s why you can remove that mention later.

That news comes from a tweet from Dominic Camozzi, the product designer at Twitter. At the moment the feature is still under development but we are already getting to see how it will work. If you remove a listing, the link to your account will disappear and you will no longer receive updates about the conversation, but at this point, the text with your profile name will remain.

Whether Twitter will change that later so that the text also disappears is unknown. Nevertheless, it is an improvement of the current system, because at this moment you still have to manually ask to remove an entry.

Block all listings

Furthermore, the social network also comes with a system for people you do not follow but who mention you in a message. If you remove the tag there, they won’t be able to list you afterward. On the other hand, twitterers are also given the option to give themselves some rest and block all mentions by other users. That tag avoidance then works for a period of one day, three days, or a week.

So technically, Twitter lets you edit the tweets of others with the new system to remove mentions, but with an ‘edit button for your own tweets, there is not yet one. Not even if you decide to pay Twitter monthly for a Blue subscription. It is not yet known when the new features will be available on Twitter.
