Xiaomi’s new device patent show curved edge full screen and side screen fingerprint

91Mobiles reported that Xiaomi submitted a unique smartphone design patent to the USPTO in March 2020 and announced it to the outside world on June 3. Judging from the picture, this concept device uses a curved screen + side fingerprint sensor.

However, unlike devices such as Realme X3 SuperZoom and Xiaomi Mi 10i, the fingerprint sensor is not embedded in the shell as part of the phone frame but is still placed under the curved display. Judging from the full screen described in the patent document, this concept device may be positioned in the high-end market.

Considering that most curved-screen smartphones use AM OLED panels, most manufacturers also tend to put fingerprint sensors under the screen. However, if Xiaomi intends to adopt a curved display based on an IPS LCD panel, it will not be able to easily place the fingerprint sensor under the panel.

If the sensor is moved to the back of the fuselage, the convenience is not as convenient as placing it on the side. Unfortunately, the design is still in the early stages of the patent application, so we cannot tell whether the company will intentionally launch a real device.
