Gboard Beta gets Contextual emoji Kitchen suggestions and Blobs

Google’s Emoji Kitchen just got a little smarter and it shows in the beta version of Gboard. Secretly, Google is also bringing the Blob emoji back to Gboard.

Emoji Kitchen

Google launched its Emoji Kitchen in Gboard last year. Those are stickers that are created in the keyboard app from an emoji. If you put an emoji into an input field via the Gboard keyboard, Gboard will give you these sticker suggestions. At the end of last year, it became possible to make stickers based on two emojis.

Now Google announces that Emoji Kitchen has grown in intelligence. The feature can now automatically recommend stickers in Gboard Beta based on the context of your message: “These help you discover the perfect emoji combination at the exact moment you need it.”

Blobs

Google did not announce that the blobs are back. The Blob emoji disappeared from the streets in 2017 and were only found in sticker packs after that. You can now find them in Gboard again if you use the ‘magic wand’ emoji along with another emoji.

The so-called blobs have a blob-shaped appearance, round from the top and flared towards the bottom. These blobs were not much liked by users because they were not always able to convey the right feeling. Still, a very large group of followers of these blobs were deeply disappointed when it became known that these Emoji were retiring.

Availability

The so-called contextual Emoji Kitchen suggestions and the Blobs are available in Gboard beta starting today and coming to all Gboard users this summer. You can sign up for Gboard Beta here. Unfortunately, the suggestions now only work in posts written in English, Spanish, and Portuguese.
