The latest Galaxy Z Fold 3 patent shows in display fingerprint and under panel camera

Samsung is expected to launch the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Galaxy Z Flip 3 new folding screens at the Galaxy Unpacked conference in August 2021. In addition to being more rugged and durable than the previous generation, Samsung is said to have introduced several new features for it-such as support for the S Pen stylus and support for the hidden camera (UPC) under the screen.

It is known from a patent application document obtained by Samsung that the new device will be equipped with various sensors under the flexible screen, including under-screen fingerprints and a front camera module.

LetsGoDigital reported that: In November 2020, Samsung Electronics submitted a patent application to the European Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO), and it was published in the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) database on June 9, 2021.

This portable communication device patent, which has a greater relationship with the screen, depicts a smartphone similar to the Galaxy Z Fold and mentions that the company applied for a patent in South Korea in 2019.

After the flexible screen is stretched out, this device can provide a tablet-sized interactive experience area, but there are multiple sensors at the bottom of the screen, such as proactive, fingerprint, close-up, etc. Of course, Samsung can further add other sensors (such as light sensors and iris).

The sensor related to the camera is arranged in the upper left corner of the fuselage, which is the notch position of the Galaxy Fold. As for the fingerprint under the screen, it obviously needs to be placed further down.

With the support plate between the screen and the camera module, the pressure exerted on the screen will not negatively affect the performance of the camera. Around the camera module, extra space is reserved to facilitate the folding and stretching of the device. If necessary, multiple cameras can be prevented under the screen (3 or more in the document).

Considering that the original folding screen has received a lot of criticism because the notch is too wide, Samsung has used a more fashionable perforated screen solution on the second generation of folding screen devices, and the Galaxy Z Fold 3 is expected to be the first to adopt a hidden camera under the UPC screen. Solution (supplemented with 16MP/1μm class image sensor manufactured by Sony).

In addition to aesthetics, the image quality of this UPC hidden proactive solution may be difficult to meet the expectations of some consumers and even with a certain degree of concealment, careful users can still see its existence, as shown by ZTE Axon 20. As for the truth, please be patient and wait for the official announcement of the Galaxy Unpacked conference this summer.
