The latest patent of Samsung smartphone shows detachable display that wrapped around the wrist

Samsung has applied for a patent that shows that the smartphone has a detachable display that can be wrapped around the wrist. The patent application was filed as early as 2018 and was announced earlier this week. This detachable display screen can be used as a secondary screen to display information such as time and notifications.

According to Samsung’s patent filed with the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), Samsung may be developing a unique smartphone, it has a detachable screen. The patent was first discovered by 91mobiles, was filed as early as 2018, and was only announced early this week.

The picture attached to the patent application shows that the top part of the phone can be detached and wrapped on a curved surface, like your hand, much like a fitness band. However, it only wraps around the upper part of the hand, so it cannot be completely fixed on the wrist.

There are two buttons on the left pane of the detachable part, which may be used for selection or navigation. The separated part may be connected to the mobile phone via Bluetooth. The front of Samsung’s detachable mobile phone is a common rectangular and square design.

But the difference between it and other phones is obviously the top part. The bracketed display screen can show the date, time, and notifications received on the phone. It can have a touch screen to support selection, but it can also be controlled directly from the phone.

The surrounding display should be connected to the main phone via a magnet or pin connector, and be charged from the phone like a stylus. The patent description describes it as a “decorative design of a display device”, which indicates that it will provide more features than typical smartphone use cases. Since the patent was filed in 2018, it is impossible to tell when or whether Samsung will launch this product.
