Microsoft Visual Studio will get multiple accessibility features

Microsoft recently published an article Let’s Make Visual Studio Easier Together on its official blog, announcing that it will actively communicate with people with disabilities and bring more accessibility features to Visual Studio.

The official said that it will not give priority to a specific type of disability, and hope that all people with disabilities who use Visual Studio can communicate with them and express their needs for product improvement.

Microsoft has listed a number of new accessibility features:

Whitespace Rendering

This feature will allow the visually impaired people to customize the number of character spaces filled by spaces so that when programming with extra large fonts, the indentation can be changed to a single character width for a better experience.

Option Collecting

Visual Studio has hundreds of options that allow users to configure and customize the experience to better meet their needs. However, too many options are mixed together, some can be changed, and some cannot be changed, which is not friendly to people with disabilities.

Therefore, Microsoft intends to streamline the options of Visual Studio and only show the few available to users. This feature will also be extended to other areas such as privacy or security.

Focus Mode

Microsoft introduced a focus mode in Windows 10, allowing users to filter out some notifications to prevent being disturbed. Microsoft intends to also use this feature in Visual Studio, users can freely choose which notifications can be displayed to prevent interference when writing code.

Audio Cues

Microsoft will connect audio prompts to events in Visual Studio and broadcast events in the form of voice to help visually impaired people write better code.
