NetherRealm, the developer of the Mortal Kombat series, announced on Friday that they are turning to develop a new game and will no longer produce any new content for Mortal Kombat 11. The official Twitter said that they are currently focusing on the next project of the studio.

They have supported Mortal Kombat 11 for more than two years, and now the after-sales support work of Mortal Kombat 11 has ended. Mortal Kombat 11 was released in April 2019, landing on NS, PS4, PC and Xbox One.

Since then, NetherRealm has expanded the game with multiple DLC packs, adding content such as stages and characters. In November 2020, Mortal Kombat 11: Ultimate Edition was launched, which included all the previously released DLCs and eliminated 13 additional characters, which is 50% more than the original lineup.

Stopping the DLC means that there will be no major changes to the game. Fighting games like Mortal Kombat 11 usually rely on continuous updates to enhance the game experience by balancing characters and adding new characters. This is an important part of keeping players interested and invested in the game.

For the company’s next game, NetherRealm did not give any hint.
