Samsung Display submitted trademark applications for Flex S and Flex B or adopted by new folding screens

At the upcoming Galaxy Unpacked conference in August, Samsung Electronics is expected to launch two new folding screens, Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Galaxy Z Flip 3. At the same time, Samsung Display recently filed trademark applications for S Flex, Flex and Flex B with the Korean Intellectual Property Office (KIPO).

In recent years, Samsung has been using Infinity Flex flexible folding screens for its own folding screen devices. The Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Galaxy Z Flip 3 that will be released next month are no exception.

On July 1, 2021, Samsung Display submitted three trademark applications S Flex, Flex S and Flex B to KIPO. The registration categories cover smartphone screens, computer monitors, flat panel displays, large LCD screens, and OLED display panels.

It is not clear at present the exact purpose of S Flex, Flex S and Flex B, but considering that the current “Flex” naming is only used for the company’s Infinity Flex screens, it means that they are likely to be a new generation of flexible folding screens.

It is reported that Galaxy Z Fold 3 will officially bring compatibility with the S Pen stylus for the first time. In view of the higher requirements of the pen tip on the screen material, the company obviously needs to make corresponding adjustments.

In May of this year, Samsung Display demonstrated several new screen technologies, including the S-Foldable rolling-screen smartphone and the hidden camera solution under the UPC screen. In addition, the company also announced that it is developing a 17-inch flexible OLED screen suitable for folding screen notebook computers, so it does not rule out that the new trademark may be related to it.

Recently, there are rumors that Samsung Electronics will launch the Galaxy Z Fold Tab tablet in early 2022, and the company seems to be developing a device that supports two-folding and a long-awaited roll-up smartphone.

With the exclusive exposure of this information by Samsung Display, it means that Samsung may have completed the research and development of related screen technology. But it may take a long time to wait until devices equipped with new screens are on the market.
