The World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) has just revealed a new design patent for a folding screen flip device that Xiaomi has applied for. It is known that it has a shape similar to Samsung Galaxy Z Flip and Moto Razr 5G.
But uses a horizontally arranged rear dual camera + Small secondary display scheme. In addition, the device adopts a pill-shaped punching solution in the upper left corner of the in-folding main screen or can accommodate two proactive sensors.
Xiaomi’s folding screen smartphone uses an asymmetrical hinge design. The outer frame of the inner screen is thick and fairly uniform, which can provide a certain degree of protection for the main screen. The SIM card slot, USB-C charging/data port, and speaker grille can be seen at the bottom of the fuselage, and a long and narrow LED flash can be seen under the rear horizontal dual camera.
The volume adjustment and the physical power button are placed on the right side of the upper half of the fuselage, and they look like the picture above after being folded and stored. In a close-up of the side after stretching (flattening), it can be seen that the rear camera module is slightly protruding from the whole body. But such a slim design means that its battery capacity (lifetime) cannot be more perfect.
Similar to the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip, the new design patent of Xiaomi’s clamshell folding screen is also equipped with a secondary screen, but its location is quite clever, placed on a horizontal bar flush with the rear dual camera. The secondary screen with a square cutout can be used to display notifications, time, or double as a camera’s viewfinder, but it is also speculated that it may be a large telephoto lens.
A pill-shaped screen opening can be seen in the upper left corner of the front of the fuselage, which can accommodate two front-facing sensors, or a selfie camera + an LED fill light. At the current level, where the inner screen is folded in half, it is obvious that the creases of the flexible screen cannot be completely smoothed. However, with the ingenious design of the UI, the new Xiaomi folding screen concept machine is still expected to bring a good multitasking experience.
