OnePlus announces OnePlus Buds Pro with adaptive noise reduction features

OnePlus is expanding its lineup of earplugs. After launching the OnePlus Buds last year, the company disclosed the OnePlus Buds Pro on Thursday, a pair of higher-end earplugs that will be launched this year. Although the company has not officially announced product details and parameters, the new Buds Pro is said to bring an adaptive noise reduction function.

OnePlus said that the new earbuds contain three microphones, which can monitor external noise and then intelligently generate noise reduction anti-frequency. Then, the earplugs will be able to self-adjust the required amount of noise cancellation, from the lowest 15 decibels to the highest 40 decibels for automatic adjustment.

OnePlus’ R&D director Kinder Liu said in an email interview that the company has been developing Buds Pro since July last year and confirmed that they are not the result of the recent OnePlus/ OPPO integration.

With adaptive noise reduction enabled, the battery life of Buds Pro will be up to 28 hours, and if it is turned off, it will be up to 38 hours. Users can switch the noise reduction function by pressing and holding the earbud lever of the left or right ear, or through the HeyMelody app on Android or iOS.

In addition to adaptive noise reduction, the OnePlus introduced battery charging technology for its new earbuds. Utilizing the Warp Charge function introduced on its OnePlus mobile phone, a 10-minute wired charging of the Buds Pro case will provide 10 hours of battery life. However, unlike mobile phones, users do not need to use a specific cable or adapter but can use any USB-C cable.

The charging box can also be charged wirelessly on any Qi-Wireless charger, but it cannot reach the level of Warp Charge, which is limited to a speed of 2 watts (wired Warp charging is 10 watts). The design of the new earplugs is similar to Apple’s AirPods Pro in appearance and size.

The matte black Buds Pro uses a combination of matte and polished materials. The earplugs themselves are matte, but the earplug stems are covered with bright metal. OnePlus uses non-conductive vacuum metallization technology to create this design.

This surface treatment enables it to achieve a metallic appearance on the surface of the plastic housing. The matte texture of the rest of the surface makes Buds Pro less slippery and more resistant to sweat and dust than glossy metal. OnePlus said it will share more information about the new earbuds at a press conference to be held on July 22, when it will also announce its new Nord 2 mobile phone.
